To accommodate all our members and guests, there has been a change of location and timing. The celebration will be held on Saturday, 14th January 2023 starting at 12:00 noon at the Dutch Club NAQ; located at 123 Pine Road, Richlands Queensland 4077 Australia.

The event is free to members and invitees. Invitees expected to attend range from the Netherlands Consul in Queensland to the Premier of the State of Queensland as well as Local, State and Federal members of the Australian Government.
The club now hosts a mix of immigrants from the past 70 years and second-generation Netherlands/Australians.
We are keeping the traditions and culture of our beloved Holland alive and promoting this to the wider community as well as our children and grandchildren.

We have survived even through the ravages of the Covid Pandemic and come out stronger in keeping with the spirit of the early immigrants. And for this reason, we wish to give back and support the vulnerable in our community.
We will be using this event as a fundraising event for Youngcare.

We ask that you donate generously

  • YoungCare is a national not-for-profit that is revolutionising the way young people with high-care disability live.
  • YoungCare believes that all young people with high physical support needs deserve to feel at home, and free to live equally in their community.
  • To achieve this YoungCare designs and builds specialist disability accommodation for high physical support needs.
  • It is through fundraising that this not-for-profit organisation raises the much-needed funds to operate and because they are not government funded, we will be asking our guests to give generously.

Capitulation of Japan – Dutch Club NAQ

Capitulation of Japan Ceremony 2023

The surrender of the Empire of Japan was announced by Japanese Emperor Hirohito on 15 August and formally signed on 2 September 1945, bringing the hostilities of World War II to a close. Every year, on this day, the people with a shared “Indies” background, those with roots in the former Dutch East Indies commemorate the surrender. The first commemoration was held in 1970, in The Hague by the initiative of ir. G.S. Vrijburg with the then Queen, Juliana, Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus present. In 1980, the “Foundation Memorial August 15, 1945” was founded with His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard as Patron to organize an annual memorial and meeting. In that year, a grand memorial in the presence of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus took place. Since then a commemoration is organized at different locations in The Netherlands on August 15th. The official ‘Indisch Monument’ located on the Professor Teldersweg in The Hague was unveiled in 1988 by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix that finally provided the Indies community with its own monument.
