New Consul-General of the Netherlands to Australia
We are pleased to welcome Frank van Beuningen, the new Consul-General of the Netherlands in
Sydney, to Australia.
Frank arrived in Sydney earlier this month. Before his posting Down Under, he worked as a diplomat on
special assignments and had several postings, among others in Afghanistan, Germany, Sri Lanka, Iraq,
Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe. Besides working on economic diplomacy and trade promotion, Frank has
dealt extensively with security policy, counter-terrorism and human rights issues.
In the Netherlands Frank was the co-founder and later director (1998 – 2002) of the Advisory Council on
International Affairs, a think tank that advises the Dutch government on a regular basis on all aspects of
foreign and security policy. He has a degree in international affairs from the Erasmus University in
Rotterdam. Frank is married to Jennie and together they have two adult children.
After having been in Sydney for nearly two weeks, Frank says “he feels like a dog with two tails”. He
states: “I am looking forward to working with the team on the optimising of consular services and the
potential for Dutch companies to partner with Australian counterparts to achieve sustainable trade and
investment for both our countries. I cannot wait to get to know the Dutch community. I am very
interested in its history”.
We wish Frank and his family a great time in Australia and look forward to working with him!

We Dutch consume an average of 2 kilo of “Drop”( which comes in the form of salty and/or sweet licorice) on average per person, per year. There are over 80 varieties of licorice available to choose from.
The world’s biggest coffee drinkers are the Dutch… drinking an average of 140 litres of coffee per year or 3.2 cups per day. The runners up are the Scandinavians…
The Dutch were the first to import coffee commercially to Europe on a large scale as early as the 1600’s .

Wij zijn benaderd door adviesbureau Berenschot dat in opdracht van het Nederlandse Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties een onderzoek uitvoert naar de gemeentebalie op Schiphol. Bij deze balie kunnen Nederlanders die in het buitenland wonen terecht voor reisdocumenten en DigiD. Het doel van dit onderzoek is het verkrijgen van inzicht in uw wensen, behoeften en (eventuele) ervaringen met de gemeentebalie op Schiphol.
Ook als u niet bekend bent met deze balie of (nog) geen bezoek hebt gebracht aan deze balie kunt u deelnemen aan het onderzoek. Het onderzoek richt zich juist ook op deze doelgroep.

Study for the Ministry of the Interior
Dear Friends,
We have been approached by consultancy Berenschot conducting an investigation commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations to the city desk at Schiphol. This counter will be available for people of Dutch Nationality living abroad to be able to organise travel documents and DigiD. The goal of this study is to gain an understanding of your needs, wishes and (if any) experience with the “Gemeente” counter at Schiphol.
Even if you are not familiar with this desk or not (yet) visited this counter you can participate in the study. The research also focuses on precisely this target group.

The Dutch flag as it is today was adopted on 19th February 1937 even though it had been widely used since the 1700’s. It wasn’t always the colours that we know today (red, white and blue) the flag was originally orange, with a white and blue stripe. It was then known as the “Prinsvlag” (more…)
